SS Deswal appointed Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police

The ACC has approved the appointment of Shri S. S. Deswal, IPS (HY: 84) as Director General, Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

He took charge from Shri R K Pachnanda, the outgoing DG of ITBP, who superannuated today.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of India, raised on 24 October 1962, under the CRPF Act, in the wake of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The ITBP was intended for deployment along India's border with China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Cabinet approves India-Morocco agreement on criminal matters

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Agreement between India and Morocco on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.


•    The Agreement will provide a broad legal framework for bilateral cooperation between India and Morocco in investigation and prosecution of crime, tracing, restraint, forfeiture or confiscation or proceeds and instruments of crime. 

•    It aims to increase effectiveness in investigation and prosecution of crime, and in providing the necessary peaceful ambience which is a pre-requisite for the development of society as a whole. 

World Bank's 'Ease Of Doing Business' Index 2019

•    The World Bank on October 31, 2018 released the Doing Business Report 2019 titled as ‘Doing Business 2019: Training for Reform’, assessing and ranking countries on the basis of ease of doing business in the year 2018.

•    As per the 2019 Report, India jumped 23 places on the Ease of Doing Business Index to 77th rank, up from 100th rank last year. 

•    This year, India’s Distance to Frontier score improved to 67.23 from 60.76 in the previous year. 

India among nations that face grave danger to soil biodiversity

India’s soil biodiversity is in grave peril, according to the Global Soil Biodiversity Atlas prepared by the World Wide Fund for Nature.

The WWF’s ‘risk index’ for the globe — indicating threats from loss of above-ground diversity, pollution and nutrient over-loading, over-grazing, intensive agriculture, fire, soil erosion, desertification and climate change — shows India among countries whose soil biodiversity faces the highest level of risk. 


Soil biodiversity encompasses the presence of micro-organisms, micro-fauna (nematodes and tardigrades for example), and macro-fauna (ants, termites and earthworms).

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved renaming of Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha as “Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda”

•    Veer Surendra Sai is a well-known freedom fighter of Odisha. 
•    Renaming of the Jharsuguda airport in his name will fulfill long-pending demand of the Odisha Government, which reflects the sentiments of the local public of the respective area.
•    It will also be a befitting tribute to the contribution of the revered personality associated with the State.

MHA approves Rs.194.44 crore Safe City Project for Lucknow
•    The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved a Safe City project for Lucknow at a total cost of Rs.194.44 crore under the Nirbhaya Fund Scheme. 

•    The project would be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with Centre and State sharing the funding in 60:40 ratio.

•    This approval is a part of MHA’s plans to implement Safe City projects in 8 selected cities, namely, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Lucknow under Nirbhaya Fund with the purpose of strengthening safety and security of women in public places.

Growth of 8 infrastructure sectors slows down to 4.3% in September

Growth of eight infrastructure sectors slowed down to 4.3 per cent in September this year, the lowest in the last four months, as production of crude oil and natural gas declined.

1.    Fertilizer grew by 2.5 percent
2.    Cement by 11.8 per cent
3.    Electricity output grew by 8.2 per cent
4.    Coal declined to 6.4 per cent
5.    Refinery products to 2.5 per cent 
6.    Steel sectors fell to 3.2 per cent
7.    Crude oil dipped by 4.2 per cent 
8.    Natural gas by 1.8 per 

These eight segments comprise more than 40 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production.

India Conducts Successful Night Trail of Agni-1 Ballistic Missile
A night trial of India's indigenously developed nuclear-capable Agni-1 ballistic missile with a strike range of 700 km was successfully conducted today from a test range off Odisha coast as part of a user trial by the Army.

Agni-I (Agnī "Fire") is a short-range ballistic missile developed by DRDO of India under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program.
